"Bringing the marvels and mystery of our dynamic planet to schools, communities, and individuals."

The Pacific Museum of the Earth was officially opened in June 19, 2003.
Over the last few years we have focussed on
developing the educational experiences available to our visitors who
encompass all interests and ages (e.g., K-12, daycare students, university students
and the general public). We currently feature educational programmes and tours for
groups that have been substantially improved with financial assistance from an
NSERC (The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) Promoscience Grant
for 2008-2011.

Museum Initiatives Related to K-12 Education
Teaching resources and experience in Earth Science are limited at the K-12 level. Even so,
the BC curriculum requires students to have a substantial background in geological,
atmospheric and oceanographic sciences. EOS is attempting to address this situation by
encouraging EOS students to consider a career in education, and by providing resources for
teachers through the Pacific Museum of the Earth.
The Teachers Resource Centre in the Museum is still in development but will
provide rocks, minerals, audio-visual materials, curricula and lesson plans. Materials will be
available for loan and Graduate / Education students will run tours and lessons for classes.
