Sea Rider Competition for Early Career Researchers - Association of Polar Early Career Scientists

The British High Commission Ottawa has recently launched a Sea Rider Competition for Early Career Researchers. 

If you are an early-career researcher based at a British or Canadian research institution with an interest in scientific research and polar exploration and are curious to experience life at sea, this opportunity is for you! 

The British High Commission invites applications to join the crew of an ice capable ship on a 3–4-day voyage through the Gulf of St. Lawrence, travelling between Québec City, Québec and St. John’s, Newfoundland. Taking place in mid-July 2024, this journey will provide early-career researchers in relevant fields with the unique opportunity to experience life on-board a ship that routinely hosts scientists. Participants will meet with some of Canada’s premiere Arctic researchers and to learn from the hydrologists, navigators, and mariners onboard. Travel, accommodation, and meals during the trip will be included.

Sessional Instructor - Simon Fraser University

The School of Environmental Science invites applications for the Fall 2024 Sessional Instructor position:

COURSE DESCRIPTION
A survey of environmental science practice that exposes students to what environmental scientists do, with guest lectures from environmental scientists and practitioners across contributing disciplines and workplaces. Coursework emphasizes literature research, analysis and synthesis along with scientific writing and communication skills. Prerequisite: EVSC 100. Writing.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Research-based PhD or PhD in-progress in Environmental Science or related field, evidenced by a current CV (curriculum vitae)
• Evidence of teaching experience and excellence (ie student reviews, other references)
• Post-secondary teaching experience in writing intensive courses
• Broad knowledge of current research frontiers in environmental science
• Knowledge of career profiles and trajectories for environmental science graduates

HIRING PRIORITIES
All Sessional Instructor positions involve membership in the Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU); and are subject to both sufficient enrollment in the course and budgetary approval. The School of Environmental Science follows Article XIV (E.2) of the TSSU-SFU Collective Agreement when hiring Sessional Instructors.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, the School of Environmental Science will define qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement with the Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU). Evaluation of the adequacy of qualifications is at the Director’s discretion.
